Registration is closed for this event

Come and join us at this two day event in the North East which will be like a Balint 'weekend' in the working week.  It is open to everyone with all levels of experience of Balint work.  You can choose to be in one of three groups:

Ordinary Balint groups, Leadership,  and Balint Psychodrama Groups

Ordinary Balint group  This is good experience for new comers; also for leaders to have an experience of being in a group themselves.

Leadership development group  This group will be experiential and focus on the skills of leading a Balint group.  It is suitable for anyone who is currently leading a group.  The experience can count towards accreditation.

Balint Psychodrama group   Balint psychodrama stems from the partnership of two practices: the classic Balint group on the one hand and psychoanalytic Psychodrama on the other.  Jean Pierre Bachman, The Journal of the Balint Society, vol 43, 2015 p5.  It was developed in the 1970s in France by Ann Cain a psychoanalyst and psychodramatist in collaboration with Charles Brisset, a Balint group leader in Paris.  Balint psychodrama is not role play but aims to recreate real scenes that took place in actual consultations as described by the presenting doctor and re-enacted by the presenter and group members. Rather than telling a story about the patient, the interaction between the doctor and the patient is shown through the use of the body in action and movement which  hopefully opens up new ways of reflecting about the case, allowing the more unconscious and non-verbal aspects of the relationship to emerge in the group.

Psychodrama group facilitators:

Dr Jean-Pierre Bachmann
Psychiatrist and psychotherapist in Geneva. Psychoanalyst and Balint Leader. Member of the Association Internationale du Psychodrame Balint Paris and the Swiss Balint Society.

Dr Marie-Noelle Laveissiere
Gynaecologist in Paris and Balint Leader.  Member of the Association Internationale du Psychodrame Balint Paris.

Dr Esti Rimmer
Psychoanalytic psychotherapist and clinical psychologist.  Balint Leader and supervisor. Newcastle upon Tyne.

There will be a limited number of places in this group allocated on a first come first served basis.

Thursday evening Dinner and relaxation.

Dinner, which is included, will be at Beamish Hall on Thursday evening along with some time to relax.  You can take a tour of the local microbrewery, try your hand at archery or a rope course, or take a walk in the lovely countryside. Transport will be provided.

Venue and accommodation

The Lancastrian Suite belonged previously to the Northern Clubs Federation, on the Federation Brewery Site where Newcastle Brown Ale used to be made.  It is now a large conference centre  http://thelancastriansuite.com/    There is plenty of free parking and it is a short taxi ride from Newcastle Station.  It is not advisable get there on foot as it is surrounded by pedestrian unfriendly dual carriageways around the metro centre.

This is a non-residential event. You can find plenty of hotels in Newcastle city centre.  If you are coming by car you might look for smaller hotels and B & B in Low Fell, Gateshead, and Whickham.

Lunches, tea and coffee, transport to Beamish and the Dinner are included in the registration fee. Transport to Beamish Hall on Thursday evening will come back to the Lancastrian Suite and then Newcastle City Centre.

This event is endorsed by the Royal College of General Practitioners
